IoT sensor solutions by IOX: e-paper button, acoustic condition sensor and sensors for climate and pipeline pressure

Chemicals & Process Industry

SIX AND A HALF YEARS OF SMALL REORDERS

Over six and a half years, a chemical group repeatedly ordered small sensor and display solutions from IOX – most recently as an ongoing cloud and connectivity fee.

Project / Client

A chemical group with a site in Germany.

Since July 2018, one specialist department has been ordering from IOX again and again, most recently in December 2024. It is the longest continuous client relationship in the company – even though each individual order was small.

The Situation

A specialist department within a large group had small, recurring tasks. One of them: consumables should be reorderable at the push of a button, with a display showing the order status. Another task concerned monitoring climate and pressure values in the production environment.

In a large group, a single problem like this rarely justifies its own IT project. It needs no investment approval and no supplier audit – what is needed is a small, ready-made solution.

The Key Question

How can a recurring everyday problem in production be solved without the specialist department having to set up a large IT project?

What We Built

PRODUCT

  • IoT button with e-paper display for reordering consumables
  • sensor for acoustic condition monitoring
  • sensors for climate and pipeline pressure

SYSTEM

  • cloud and connectivity integration, so that orders and measured values reach the client without its own IT infrastructure

The Result

Over six and a half years, a series of small devices went live. They include an order button with e-paper display, a condition monitoring sensor and sensors for climate and pipeline pressure.

Reordering consumables works better. It happens at the push of a button at the storage location, with the status shown on the display. Over the years, individual orders have turned into an ongoing cloud and connectivity service.

It proved how small an entry into a large group can be. No big digital strategy was needed – just a specialist department with an everyday problem that kept reordering over the years.
