Wireless measuring unit – IoT case study by IOX GmbH

Industry & Process Measurement

FROM CABLE TO LIVE CURVE

An industrial group now measures pressure and temperature in a production press wirelessly and almost live in its own platform.

Project / Client

An industrial group supplies materials that its customers process in a press, under pressure and at defined temperatures.

IOX has been working with the group since 2021. First on a small function test, and since 2025 on a dedicated measurement system for the pressing process.

The Situation

For processing to succeed, pressure and several temperatures in the pressing process had to be right. An older, wired measurement system existed for this. It delivered values, but the cables restricted the setup.

The client did not yet have a robust, wireless measurement system. It was meant to deliver values almost live into the client’s own platform.

The Key Question

Can off-the-shelf market components be combined into a measurement system that is ready for use faster than an in-house development – and still robust enough for the pressing process?

A sensor alone would not have been enough. It had to fit a housing, evaluation software and the client’s platform. Coordinating exactly that was the real task.

What We Built

PRODUCT

  • a first small function test with the existing housing to verify wireless data transmission
  • based on this, a demonstrator for wirelessly measuring pressure and several temperatures in the pressing process
  • a robust housing with a replaceable thermocouple

SYSTEM

  • wireless link between sensor and evaluation software
  • integration with the client’s existing platform so that values arrive there almost live

TEAM

IOX coordinated the sensor, housing and software partners, plus project management, assembly and testing. The role was that of an integrator who brings off-the-shelf market components together precisely instead of developing everything in-house.

The Result

The outcome is a working demonstrator for wirelessly measuring pressure and temperature in the pressing process.

It enabled an integrator role. In it, IOX brings sensor, housing and software partners together into one system – instead of delivering a single component.
