3D rendering of the camera for off-grid remote monitoring of vehicle service systems – IoT case study

Industry & Mechanical Engineering

FROM CAMERA TO SYSTEM

A manufacturer of vehicle service systems now monitors its systems remotely, with video and remote control in the cloud.

Project / Client

The client manufactures service systems for vehicles that are in use at many sites. IOX has been supporting the client since 2021. What started as a first camera project has become a collaboration that continues to this day.

The Situation

The systems were spread across different sites, and each system was wired differently on site. Operators wanted to monitor their systems remotely and have video evidence in the event of damage. However, there was no uniform access to on-site connectivity.

The client had product management for the project but no in-house development capacity for implementation in IoT and embedded systems.

The Key Question

How can a camera and control solution be developed that runs at every site, independently of the existing network?

It had to combine video, remote control and service in one system. Over time, a single camera turned into a complete system. Costs and data protection had to be planned for, as well as latency and safety interlocks for remote control. Help desk processes and billing also had to be covered.

What We Built

PRODUCT: Proven standard hardware instead of in-house development, which saves time and money. Several control cabinet variants ensure that the system fits every site.

SYSTEM: Cameras transmit video directly from the site and can be accessed remotely. A gateway connects doors and sensors. New devices set themselves up automatically. All data comes together in a cloud platform.

TEAM: A clear division of tasks: IOX is responsible for everything on site, from the hardware to the connection to the cloud. A service provider operates the platform, and the client controls the systems and business logic.

The Result

A solution went live that runs at every site – independently of the network and the wiring on site.

Remote operation works even better. Operators can see and control their systems without being on site. In the event of damage, video evidence is available.

It made a collaboration possible that has grown over time. The first camera has become a complete system.
